What a cloud limit actually means
Local work is never capped
Cloud quotas never block local work. A record beyond a cloud limit stays fully usable on the device that created it — it can be viewed, edited, sold, reported on, and exported — and waits locally until quota opens or the plan changes.
Your existing records come with you
Turning on Cloud Sync does not delete or block local data. The first cloud migration currently carries the records the workspace already has. After activation, each cloud plan limits how many new records of each type can be added to the cloud.
Roles do not change by tier
Every plan has the same two roles, Admin and Staff / Employee. Cloud tiers change how many seats sync, not what a seat can do. There is no custom role builder and no permission matrix.
Cloud-sync coverage

Team seats count active team members; a disabled account does not use a seat. Image sync is included on every cloud tier — single uploads are capped at 10 MB and total media is not metered or sold as an allowance.

Yes. The Slapsoil application is offline-first and free forever at $0 — the complete inventory and point-of-sale feature set, with no credit card and no trial clock. Your local records are limited only by the storage on your device.
What am I paying for, then?
Only Slapsoil Cloud Sync, and only if you turn it on. That is an optional hosted service that backs your workspace up and keeps it in step across devices and staff. It starts at $0 per month, and Cloud Starter ($7.99/month) and Cloud Pro ($24.99/month) buy larger cloud coverage — not extra features in the app.
How many items and sales does each Cloud Sync plan back up?
Cloud Free backs up 15 items, 30 sales, and 2 team seats. Cloud Starter raises that to 100 items, 1,500 sales, and 4 seats. Cloud Pro covers 1,000 items, 10,000 sales, and 10 seats. Does Cloud Sync keep my devices up to date in real time?
Close to it. While a device is online, Slapsoil Cloud Sync pushes changes in the background roughly every 15 seconds and pulls what your other devices have done, and a completed sale is pushed immediately rather than waiting for the next cycle. If a device loses connection it keeps working normally and queues its changes, then syncs them automatically once it is back online.
Does Cloud Sync change how the offline app behaves?
No. After initial loading and registration, the local app keeps everyday inventory and checkout work available without internet or an active server connection. Cloud Sync does not remove or gate local records, and you can keep using the local application without activating it.
Are stocktake, promotions, loyalty, held carts, and split tender paid features?
No. Stocktake, draft purchase orders, internal consumption, promotions, loyalty, held carts, split-tender records, and X/Z readings are included in the free local app. Cloud quotas apply only when their supported records synchronize. Held carts remain device-local and are not backed up or synced; Slapsoil records card and e-wallet tenders but does not process them.
What happens when I exceed a cloud quota?
Nothing breaks locally. Cloud quotas govern how many new records of each type can be added to the cloud after activation — they never block local record creation. A record beyond a cloud limit stays fully usable on the device that created it and waits locally until quota opens or the plan changes.
What happens to my existing records when I first enable Cloud Sync?
Turning on Cloud Sync does not delete or block local data. The first cloud migration currently carries the records the workspace already has, rather than trimming them to a quota. The plan limits apply afterwards, to new cloud records.
What team roles are available?
Two: Admin and Staff / Employee. That is the same on every plan — Slapsoil has no custom role builder and no permission matrix, and higher cloud tiers do not unlock additional role types. Cloud tiers change how many seats sync, not what a seat can do.
Is media storage capped?
There is a 10 MB ceiling on any single uploaded image. Slapsoil does not meter or sell aggregate media storage per workspace, so no plan here advertises a storage allowance. Image sync is included on every cloud tier.
Do I need a credit card to sign up?
No. Creating a local workspace does not ask for payment details, and Cloud Free does not either. Production registration requires internet. There is no self-service checkout yet — paid cloud tiers are arranged by contacting us.
